If you’re dreaming of a career in healthcare, there’s good news!
The government has introduced new and exciting changes to health training programs in Cameroon.
These updates aim to improve the quality of training for future healthcare workers and provide better opportunities for students like you.
At STEM Higher Institute, we are thrilled to announce that admissions are now open for the academic year 2024/2025.
Whether you are just starting your healthcare journey or continuing your studies, these changes make this the perfect time to join us.
Let’s break it down and explain what’s happening in simple terms!
Why Was the HND Program Stopped?
In the past, many students joined the Higher National Diploma (HND) program for health sciences.
While the program helped train healthcare professionals, it faced some challenges.
- The curriculum didn’t fully meet the needs of the healthcare industry.
- It lacked some practical elements required to prepare students for real-world jobs.
To solve these problems, the government decided to stop the HND program and create a new system that would be better for everyone.
What’s New in Health Training?
After months of planning, the government has introduced a new health training program.
Here are the main updates.
New Admissions for Level 1
Students can now apply for Level 1 health programs for the 2024/2025 academic year.
This is a fresh start for students who couldn’t join programs before because of the HND suspension.
Improved Curriculum
Level 1 programs will follow a new curriculum created by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE).
This curriculum focuses on practical skills and knowledge to prepare you for a career in healthcare.
Transition for Current Students
If you are already studying in Levels 2 or 3, don’t worry!
You can continue your training under the old curriculum, which was created by the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP).
After completing your training, you will take a national aptitude test to evaluate your skills.
Stricter Standards for Training
MINSANTE will now oversee the approval of healthcare training programs.
This means that all schools, including STEM Higher Institute, must meet high standards to provide quality education.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you’ve been waiting to start your health training, now is the time!
The new program provides a clear path to begin your journey.
Whether you want to become a nurse, a midwife, or work in another area of healthcare, this new system is designed to give you the best training possible.
